MRF Partner Announced for FPP Curbside Recycling Pilot

The Materials Recovery for the Future (MRFF) research program, conducted by RRS and an initiative of the Foundation for Chemistry Research and Initiatives, is partnering with J.P. Mascaro & Sons Inc. to pilot single-stream curbside recycling of flexible plastic packaging (FPP) at their MRF in Berks County, PA.

The pilot is expected to generate data to help inform municipalities and the recycling industry on the most efficient and economical ways to recycle FPP. This research addresses one of the key contaminants in single stream today and will improve the quality of fiber while creating a new product bale.

The pilot program will begin in late 2018. From equipment order to acceptance of FPP in curbside carts, the pilot program is expected to last two years.
