RRS Discusses Organics Recovery and Commercial Recycling at WasteExpo 2014

April 22, 2014, Ann Arbor, Michigan – Sustainability and recycling consulting firm, RRS, proudly announces two of its experts will present at the 2014 Waste Expo annual conference in Atlanta, Georgia, April 29-May 1.

JD Lindeberg, RRS Principal and President, will present the effects of organics on climate change, more specifically how landfill gas collection systems are not effective when managing food scraps. Lindeberg will discuss the negative impact of greenhouse gas emissions experienced when food waste enters the landfill and transforms into methane emitted into the atmosphere. He will also highlight the positive benefits of recovering food waste through composting and anaerobic digestion as a logical solution. Lindeberg will present “Climate Change Imperatives for Foodwaste Recovery”, at the Composting and Organics Recycling Conference Program during the Recovery for Food Residuals – Waste or Resource session, Wednesday, April 30, 1:30p-2:45p.

Aaron Burman, RRS Senior Consultant, will discuss how technology, specifically GIS tools, are helping to connect generators of organic waste with available processors. Burman will also highlight how that same technology can be used to highlight areas of the country that have organic material available, but need municipalities and businesses to work together to develop the needed infrastructure. Burman will present “GIS Tools for Identifying Infrastructure Availability and Shortfall”, at the Composting and Organics Recycling Conference Program during the Infrastructure Status, Needs and Development in the Organics Industry session, Wednesday, April 30, 9:00a-10:15a.

Aaron Burman will also be presenting on commercial recycling by looking at ways businesses can work outside their boundaries to help lower costs and achieve their sustainability goals. He will highlight the need for critical mass to enable efficient routes, and defining the difference between saving or costing money. Burman will present during the Building a Commercial Recycling Program session, at the WasteExpo Conference Program, Wednesday, April 30, 1:30p-2:45p.
