Energy assessments of several of Coca-Cola’s plants were conducted to identify opportunities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption. This led to the development of an energy management guide that was used worldwide, providing an estimated savings of $75 million annually. The assessment process led to the implementation of Coca-Cola’s environmental management system, eKOsystem. The system identifies business opportunities that add value and align with the company’s mission. A waste management performance strategy was also created, which provided a methodology for suppliers to define pollution prevention goals and develop opportunities to create more recyclable packaging while maintaining high quality.
